Down to Earth with the Sky as the Limit

Of Dutch origin, he graduated in Dentistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1988. He immediately moved to Florence to further enrich his professional experience. His first professional position was in the private practice of a Dutch colleague, a former assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam. He completed his first year of professional practice in a dental clinic in London, where he was involved on a daily basis in basic dental treatments.

At the University of Zurich, he further developed his passion for craniomandibular disorders, which had already begun in Amsterdam, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tore Hansson. He completed a specialization as Assistant to Professor Sandro Palla in the department of Masticatory Disorders, Gnathology, and Total and Hybrid Prosthodontics. Professor Palla, an exceptional mentor, introduced him to a multidisciplinary approach to dentistry, with particular attention to overall well-being, combined with aesthetics and the characteristic precision of Zurich.

He continued his training as an associate at the renowned practice of Dr. Christian Capaul in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, specializing in aesthetic dentistry and oral rehabilitation through fixed and hybrid prosthetics. During this time, he also gained experience in dental practice management.

In 1993, he opened his own dental practice in Ponte Tresa and shortly thereafter a second practice in central Milan, in partnership with orthodontist Dr. Ietta Petrini. During this period, he also truly began to learn Italian and develop an interest in Italian culture. In 2003, following the opening of the current location in Piazza Aldo Moro, he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to this practice.

Throughout his professional career, he has continuously updated his skills by attending courses and conferences worldwide. In particular, he completed a specialization in implantology under the renowned implantologist Dr. Egon Euwe.

In 2000, he obtained his PhD in Dentistry from the University of Bonn with a dissertation entitled “Research on the Bioequivalence of Levothyroxine Preparations”, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Manfred Göthert.

He is a member of the Italian National Association of Dentists (ANDI), the European and Dutch Federation of Periodontology (EFP and NVVP), and the Dutch Society of Endodontology (NVVE). He is registered with the Medical Association of Varese and the Dutch Medical Association and is currently certified as a dental surgeon in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.

His Northern European education, with its strong emphasis on prevention and social responsibility, the Swiss training focused on precision and reliability, and the Italian experience highlighting aesthetics and creativity, have together created an ideal blend for advanced, comprehensive, and patient-centered dentistry.

In his youth, he was a passionate baseball player, influenced by a period spent with his family in the United States. During his years of study in Amsterdam, he spent his free time rowing on the Amstel River as a member of the renowned student rowing club ASR Nereus.

Today, he enjoys staying fit through mountain biking, skiing in winter—especially ski touring off-piste—and spending his summers as a skipper sailing the Adriatic Sea, often between Croatia and Puglia.

He met his wife Gianna during his specialization period in Zurich and is the father of two children.
